Why Freedom Became My Compass

I grew up in a place where freedom was something you could feel in your bones — not because you had it, but because you didn’t. My childhood was shaped by institutions, rules, and walls that were never meant for a young person to understand. I learned early what it meant to be controlled, to be moved from one place to another, and to have decisions made for me.

Those years left a mark, of course. But they also gave me something unexpected: a deep, unshakeable understanding of what freedom truly means.

When I finally stepped into my own life, I carried one promise with me —never again to live in a world without open doors.

Travel became my way of breathing. Every train I took, every border I crossed, every new place I discovered felt like a small victory. Not against anyone — but for myself.

Freedom: Berlin Wall

"Never again to live in a world without open doors."

Travel became my way of breathing.

Every train I took, every border I crossed, every new place I discovered felt like a small victory. Not against anyone — but for myself.

And then, years later, I found Ghana. A place that didn’t just welcome me, but grounded me. A place full of warmth, rhythm, and humanity. A place where I felt something I had been searching for since childhood: belonging.

Ghana taught me that freedom isn’t only the absence of walls — it’s the presence of community, of kindness, of open skies and open hearts. It’s the ability to choose your own path, to build your own story, and to heal in your own time.

Freedom

My journey has never been about escaping the past. It has been about walking toward something bigger — toward a life shaped by curiosity, connection, and the simple joy of being able to move freely through the world.

This is why I travel. This is why I write. And this is why Ghana will always be part of my story.
